The MonDak Heritage Center houses two libraries, the Charlotte Rees Gabisch Art Library and the Lillian Anderson Jensen History Library. The Center's art library is one of Richland County's best kept secrets, as it boasts the finest collection of technical artistry and art history books in the area. The Art Library is located on the main floor of the Center and was established through a generous donation by the family of Charlotte Rees Gabisch, a local painter and long-time Sidney community member. The Gabisch family has long been friends of the museum, and her Charlotte's son, Don, also played another instrumental role in the early days of the MonDak Heritage Center. He helped with the original design and construction of the current facility, which was completed in 1984. During her life, Gabisch amassed an impressive collection of books to help her pursue her passion for painting, and now those books are available to the next generation of Richland County and MonDak region artists.
The Charlotte Rees Gabisch Art Library is also the Center's meeting room for the Board of Directors and other museum committees. Many community groups also use it for special meetings, while the museum uses it for art classes and other activities. If you are interested in using this, or our gallery space for a meeting or gathering of your own, please contact us via phone at or via e-mail at mdhc@richland.org.
